It is true that I can use a 64-bit version of Windows with bootcamp though I have to get drivers and such I cannot use the Bootcamp driver software? Is that correct?

What I am asking is I can use 64-bit Windows and I find the drivers?

It does work with Boot Camp, although there are practically no drivers and I would highly suggest you use the 32bit version over the 64bit.

Here and there!
I believe it would be just as easy as installing your 64-bit version of Windows using the regular Boot Camp.

---But there are no Apple-certified 64-bit Windows drivers, so I would second iBook's advice to stick to 32-bit software.---

64bit drivers are not hard to come by. I guess finding sound, wireless, etc drivers would be hard.

Anyone using 64bit Windows on a Mac.

i still think you can not install vista 64bit on macbook or macbook pro. the reason is the BIOS.

PS. this information is one year old, if somebody has update, please do post it.

There should be no reason why Vista 64 can't install on a Mac.

MBP and 64 bit vista

Had no problem installing Vista 64 bit using bootcamp 1.3 on my MBP. Some drivers a little tricky to find but all I am lacking now is the ability to two finger scroll on the trackpad and use the keypad shortcuts for brightness etc. Wireless, ethernet, isight all work fine. Power management is a little dodgy in terms of Windows knowing what the battery life is left, but otherwise works well.

Boot Camp emulates Windows' BIOS, to run under EFI, which Intel Macs use instead.

64-bit Windows uses EFI, so the emulator will go 'NOOOOOOOOOOOOO'. Wackiness ensues.

Whackiness, in this case, means Windows refuses to acknowledge your hardware other than USB simple devices, mouse/keyboard and a basic 640x480 display. No GFX card, no wireless, no ehternet..nuthin.

I tired it. I now post from 32-bit, much happier. Wait for BootCamp final version or wait for Apple to gobble up Cider (or make a copy)...jizzzzzaaaaarraaam.

Well this is how things should work. Good work getting it working.

Ok people... bootcamp does not emulate a BIOS. Bootcamp has nothing to do with the EFI or anything BIOS related.

Bootcamp is ONLY a graphical interface to resize your hard drive and a set of drivers.

If you have BIOS issues with your mac now then the newer versions of bootcamp won't fix this because well, it's only a set of drivers and a graphical interface to resize your harddrive.

To fix BIOS issues apple will need to release a firmware upgrade.

To support BIOS the Mac's were given a firmware upgrade the same time as the original bootcamp came out. New macs come with this upgraded firmware.

Bootcamp != firmware/bios/EFI

I have a copy of Windows XP 64-Bit Professional Edition. I want to install it on my Macbook Pro in order to play games such as Lord of the Rings Online. Will I be able to do this relative ease or not? I'm aware Apple recommends 32-Bit versions of Windows, but I don't have a 32-bit copy, so I'm out of luck.

Will I have to go through hell finding drivers for my Airport, video card, sound card, and built-in Ethernet? :/

64 bit Windows on a Mac

I have a Mac Pro quad 2.66 with 6 gig of ram and an ati x1900 graphics. I've been dual-booting Vista Ultimate 64 since bootcamp 1.2 and have no problems.
The essential drivers are easy to get. My Mac didn't ship with airport so I can't comment on that. The 64bit ati drivers are all available at the ati site.
Sound you can find here: http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/SOUND-CARD/REALTEK/

Ethernet: http://www.intel.com/design/network/drivers/index.htm

The biggest inconvenience I have is until Mac supports specific Mac 64 bit drivers like some keyboard functions, you have to right click on your cd\dvd drive icon and select eject to open your drive. NO BIG DEAL :)

I really don't use Windows that much, but when I do it screams faster than any Dell or similar machine I have ever used. In fact I score a 5.9 out of 6 on every hardware function except hd performance in which case I score a 5.4

Not bad eh? I wish and hope the extra goodies are supported soon. I read the latest boot camp release will only support 32 bit windows :( No big deal. Everything works fine, have a clone of iTunes folder on windows, and my Windows only apps fly. If you can live without some minor features, go for it. 64 bit works excellent. BTW, its a small sacrifice to pay when you have more than 2 gig of ram, unlike Mac OS X, 32 bit windows has a 2 gig cap, and Vista eats a gig by itself looking pretty. Hope this helps someone.

Go Leopard only 4 more days to wait ! :)
