Also, I remember reading somewhere - probably Anandtech or StorageReview.com - that SSD drives REQUIRE part of the drive for temp storage when doing writes to the drive. So part of the drive is being used by the SSD controller to put data while it waits to fill the correct size block. I know I probably said that wrong and that there is a pretty complex algorithm involved with SSD data reads and writes, but that is the gist of it.
So to sum up... it's normal for SSD's to use that much space when formatted.
