I posted this in the iphone section but thought maybe it was more appropriate in this one, so here goes:

My 6s is about 2 1/2 years old and battery performance has been very good. I will normally leave my phone turned on and on silent at night and it will use 4 -5 % charge overnight. All of a sudden I went to bed one night with battery at about 98% charge and when I got up in the morning it only had about 2 % left. I charged to 100 % in less time than I expected, but ever since then I am getting only about half or less of the tiime on a recharge compared to what I would get before this happened. Does anyone have any idea why my battery performance has dropped so drastically all of a sudden? Thanks in advance for any responses.

I have a 6S that is only a few months old so the battery is very good. I have noticed on this phone as on others is if you leave google or google-photos up, the battery level dissipates very quickly.

This is helpful information. The evening that this happened I fell asleep while using the phone and I had a couple of sessions open, and one of them was google.

These things come into mind with those symptoms.

*Battery is bad - you can have it replaced by Apple or DIY (plenty on Amazon)
*Software is bad - you can do a simple restore or a DFU
*Tristar or Tigris chip went bad - Very rarely happens. Usually caused by water damage or using unapproved chargers or chargers that are "way too strong" for the phone.

All of these can be isolated by going to a tech. I'd personally go to a local tech as they charge lower and oftentimes, give free check-up. Your device, most probably, has its warranty expired and it can be costly.

My mums 5S was doing something similar recently, no obvious culprit using it in the battery screen so i force closed all open apps then rebooted the phone and it was fine after that. Just presumed something that was open was doing it for some weird reason.

Well, my resolution was to replace the phone. We were qualified for an upgrade by our carrier and I just opted to go for it. I agree with other posters that it could very well be the battery, or software issue. It's a shame because otherwise the phone is just like new, always in a case and never exposed to water or severe dropping or anything like that, and I really loved the phone and had every intention of keeping it another year of two, but oh well, I have a new phone.:) Thanks to everyone for the comments.

I've had bad luck with my 6s. The original battery went into rapid decline after about a year. I had it replaced by Apple for 1000 baht (about US$30) in January 2018. That battery also failed after about a year. I put up with it for about six months and then had a new non-Apple battery installed for about the same price as Apple's replacement program. Only time will tell, but, at thirty bucks a pop I can afford a new battery every year or so.

I really like the 6s and as long as it's supported I intend to keep it.

i also have problems with the battery shortly after it's new, changed 2 times so far. I guess the 6s has has some kind of design flaw where a chip or some other electronic component goes bad in some devices, like the several flaws every macbook generation has. would be a no brainer for Louis Rossman, but he only does MacBooks :D
