My wife just upgraded to a 6S+ from her 5S. She takes a lot of photos with her phone and usually gets some great shots. All of the pictures she has taken so far with the new phone look grainy and smudged. A couple were in less than ideal lighting conditions, but most have been in bright indoor lighting. She also took some late yesterday afternoon outside. All look grainy. I'll have her take some more outside tomorrow in full sun to see if it's the same result. Anyone else experiencing this?

Please upload some of the grainy photos, so we can see. I, too, noticed a lot of grain, but I was in low light. But based on all their praises for the new camera and how well it does in low light, I expected far less grain.

She doesn't by any chance still have the protective plastic on there? Is there any schmutz on the lens?

I don't believe the plastic is still on there. The plastic comes in one piece, right? There's not a separate piece for the lens? I didn't see any gunk on the lens, looked clear to me. I will post some examples tonight when I get home.

Here are some examples. I think the photos with sun/natural light look okay. But those with lower light or artificial light look noisy/grainy. I wonder if it's a software thing rather than a physical problem with my wife's phone. What do you think?

I don't see any issues. The low light photos are very low light and are appropriately grainy.

Is her Live Photos setting on? Especially in less lighted situations the iPhone cannot leave the exposure long enough to capture more light because it has to do the video recording for the Live Photos. Turn off Live Photos (button at top of camera in middle) and it should improve the low light performance.

Good idea, we'll give that a try. She did have the Live Photos setting on. Thanks.
