Here is the preface to my problem:
My phone fell out of my jeans while riding my motorcycle. The screen cracked and the camera ribbon cable broke.

I took it to a place @ the mall and they replaced the digitizer, glass and camera. I forgot my password and when I plugged it into itunes it wanted to update the IOS (Im guessing since the phone was already synced with this itunes). I went ahead and accepted the update. It failed with error code 9. Now it reboots into a blue screen then restarts.

I have put it into DFU mode and get the iphone cable plugging into iTunes. I am not able to do anything.

I have downloaded different ios version (ipsw's) and tried manually selecting the file to restore and it fails.

I'm not too familiar with the ios versions these days. I used to jailbreak my iphone 3 and 4.. Things have changed drastically. i used the neal python script savethemblobs to get my shsh. Then started the TSS server from tinyumbrella with no luck. I can see iTuns requesting the the blob on in the tinyumbrella logs but iTunes still gets error 17.

You can't really put any random iOS version onto the phone. It essentially has to be whatever is the latest one that the phone supports and Apple still signs for it.

iTunes is the way. If it's giving you an error then you would need to figure it how to work around it or fix it. Perhaps using another computer with iTunes, perhaps something else.

Not sure if this is the problem but on the 5th gen iPhone the blue, or sometimes red screen can be caused by the wrong screws being put in the wrong place on the EMI shield. One of the screws is bigger than the other and forcing the larger one in can rupture it on the mother board.

Secondly if the camera cable there is a trick if you fancy taking it apart.....plug the digitiser cable, the shield connector in and LCD cable in (the 3 horizontal ones) and let the phone reboot - once it's rebooted, then plug the proximity cable in (the vertical one) then reattach the EMI shield but don't screw in the screw in the bottom right hand corner of the shield.

Not sure if that helps but it has helped me in the past with the 5th gen iPhones

Hope this helps
Craig :)

Blue screen means iOS Kernel Panic I'm afraid, and is a major hardware issue which requires a replacement. I've had it myself.

For what its worth, I'm also a technician and have seen this several times in clients' devices. No amount of iTunes restores will make this go away. You need a new device my friend.
