I'm looking at this drive to replace my HGST 6TB NAS edition as an internal disk in my 09 model as it seems to be currently the only other affordable 7200rpm model.

The HGST NAS has an issue unfortunately with the drivers in later versions of OS X that means it only mounts on a cold boot (i.e not after a restart). - for details of this and what was tried in an attempt to resolve it see: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7132585

Does anyone know if the hole pattern for the screws is OK for the stock drive trays and that it isn't effected by the issue (WD and Seagate 6TB disks plus the Helium HGST models aren't affect it seems).

Thanks, that is a reserve option (or rearranging my disks and mounting the 6TB in the optical bay), however some 6TB (like the NAS HGST drive I have now) still have the old pattern so that is preferred if possible for most flexibility.

Most important is the mounting after a reboot however.

OK so I decided to be a guinea pig with one of these disks.

It doesn't have the central screw holes so I couldn't use it in the sleds, instead I ended up installing in the optical bay and moving the disk I had there to the sled.

The good news is that it mounted OK on restart (unlike the 6TB HGST NAS disk).

If you're asking about the HGST Deskstar NAS 6TB I verified that it fits in the cMP trays and plugs in, mounts fine on cold boot at least (didn't test the restart, I was just checking to see if it fit a couple months ago).

I had been running the HGST 6TB NAS as it is generally my preferred brand but these drives only mount in a cMP on cold boot.

This meant every time I had to restart for an update or installer I then had to shutdown and power on to get my disk back.

I finally got fed up with this so have replaced it with the Toshiba as it is the only other 7200rpm 6TB model at a similar price.
