My 7.1 is behaving oddly, I'm not sure when it started, but it is possible it is tied to the last Mac OS update. (Regular one, not beta)

I'm getting some lag, beach balls, and general slow downs that were never there before. This is on a 28 core Mac Pro with a W6800X Duo and 96GB of ram, 4TB SSD.

Any idea what can be causing this slow down? Is the last update to blame or should I look for some other issue?

Does it happen in a specific application, during a specific task? Have you checked Activity Monitor's memory tab to see if memory pressure is high (yellow or red)?

I've also got 12.5 on my 7,1 and no issues here (it came with 12.4 IIRC). I'm only on 16 core with W6800X 32GB (non Duo) and 48GB ram, 1TB SSD. Mine is very fast - everything instant.

Anything else that has updated or installed recently? How are temps looking?

Anything obvious in the logs?

I think I may have figured out what it was: Qsync from QNAP service was likely the issue, since mine had not been updated after the Mac update. After I disabled it, I do not seem to have the problem.

I notice a slowdown/lag whenever Time Machine is backing up. I don't know when this started but it must be in one of the last OS update.

I think there is something to this. My 7,1 16 core feels laggy, especially compared to Windows 10 via bootcamp. I get better Cinebench cpu cores on windows than I do Mac OS.

I actually killed Time Machine and resulted to CCC for every end of day back ups. The Mac still slows down for some reason and then jumps back to life. I wonder which process is the offender now that I've ruled Time Machine out of the picture.

I'm sporting an RX 6900XT + Vega II.

Mine are going to an APFS-formatted SATA SSD 4TB Samsung 870 EVO drive. It was used exclusively for Time Machine, but I reformatted it and is now exclusively CCC backup.

No change on the random lag of the computer.

I am now experimenting by killing the iStat Menus process to see if it's the culprit.

Anyone in this thread running this software?
