Anyone have any idea why the 17" MB Pros are now at 7-10 business days to ship (it was previously at 1-3, like the 15")? I was planning on getting one yesterday but now that it won't ship for 7-10 days, combined with the fact that I'll be getting standard ground shipping, puts the arrival somewhere close to Leopard's tentative release date (the 26th).

Anyone have any ideas/recommendations as to what I should do? Should I just order and get Leopard when it comes out (as I'll be buying a family pack anyway) or should I just wait, hope that there is a bump along with the Leopard release, and order then?

Thanks in advance.

Well, this is just a guess but I say that the 17" will be getting LED screens and they are trying to get rid of the LCD screens. I think that the entire MacBook Pro line will be getting a little boost in October, but it will probably not happen. Look for Jan. 2008.

Eh... the LED is the backlighting component, not the screen. These screens would be the same o very close I would imagine. The screen is simply an overlay component and the backlight is a means to drive light through the LCD screen. 17" are currently CFL (compact flourescent lighting)

If you're a school trying to buy a 17" MacBook Pro right now, the wait is 2-3 weeks for both the standard resolution and high resolution. When the lead times go up like this, it's usually a sign something new is coming.

I don't think that the 17" would be getting LED-backlit LCD panels this soon. They could also be getting them ready to load them with Leopard. (But if that were the case why isn't everything else 2-3 weeks?) There are no reasons that I can think for a delay other than it's a pending product update.

Yeah, that was my gut instinct as well. I think I am going to ride it out and hope that there are updates on the way shortly. Thanks.
