Just compared the speaker phone quality of my new 7 Plus with that of the older 6 Plus.

6 Plus blows it out of the water. Tried 3 different people. All said the 7 Plus sounds horrible. Direct quotes:

"Muffled" and "Ewwwwww"

Deal killer for me. This phone will have to go back.

Anyone else notice this? Bum phone or just the way it is?

Most reviews are good. Not spectacular.

I tried a 7 Plus in Best Buy and Target while watching a preloaded movie and the the sound seemed quite good. Definitely not muffled.

Can you take it to an Apple Store and listen?

The sound is definitely more detailed on my 7 Plus than on my 6s Plus. I also preferred the sound on my 6 Plus over that of the 6s Plus.

I think the phone speakers are much improved over the 6s plus. I don't really use my phone on speaker phone, but I do use Duolingo quite a bit and it's much easier now to understand what they are saying.

I also disagree. The audio quality from both the speakers and ear piece completely trump the 6S. It sounds like the caller is in the room with me.

I just realized the OP was referring to the speakerphone qualty. It sounds pretty good on my 7 Plus, for what it's worth.

Yeah there bound to be mixed reactions I guess, I upgraded from a 6 Plus to the 7 Plus and I find it to be a good deal better when using the speakerphone.

I don't use it often really, so it could be a placebo effect.

The audio quality for music etc, is definitely a big improvement though. I know that's not the subject at hand, but while I'm ranting on I thought I'd mention it anyway.

OT, Alas I may never own one to test. I ordered a 7+ 256gb thru Apple on ATT Next. They processed it as a sale and charged my credit card full amount. Get it on the 26th. Still owe on 6s Plus till next May on Next plan. So, probably returning and waiting for the 8. Not sure. Guess I could take it to the front of my Apple Store and see if a profit could be made--:)

The loudspeaker on the 6+ was great.
The 6S+ had a louder but inferior quality speaker and the 7+ sounds way too brash & tinny for my tastes.
Hopefully Apple will drop a couple of rich-sounding speakers into the 8+.

i completely disagree, came from a 6s+ and the speaker on the 7+ is wayyyyy better.. i think the stereo speaker sounds amazing!
Bum phone maybe. My 7+ sounds decent.

Hope so, although a casual search on google shows that call quality is a widespread problem.

In any case, I'm returning this phone. I conducted more tests using the various fixes listed on the web, and the results continue to be uniformly crappy.

Quality on the 7 series is a big step up from the 6S, not sure what's wrong with yours but the 6S is inferior compared to the 6S... and the 6S to me had a great speaker.

Gotta be your phone. Mine sounds fine both with speakerphone and music.

For me no comparison the 7 plus blows away my 6s plus in audio quality and speaker phone quality.
I use the speakerphone a lot for work and the people on the other end say I am crystal clear.
Return your phone its must be defective.

Yes, it's outta here. Tried another one and call quality is great, say others. Also included a note to Apple *not* to resell that unit.

Apple won't resell your returned phone. It will either be recycled or sold to third party. Also phones that are given to replace defective units are brand new. I had apple care on my iPhone 6 and had phone replaced a number of times. Each time got brand new phone out of small white apple box. Tech said bad phones are sold to third party.

Well that's a shame. Poor third party. I included the note because that phone should not be sold to *anyone.* Why should a defective phone be pawned off to a "third party"?

A very honest and personal opinion. The stereo effect is awesome, it's much (though not twice) louder than my 6s Plus, it handles high frequency (trebles) much better, but the lower frequencies consequently suffered. Well I guess you can't have the best of both worlds.

Overall, though it sounds tinnier now, I think it's a dramatic improvement over the 6s Plus purely because of the increased volume and stereophonic effects. I'm okay with lousier bass. You'll never play bassy songs on the iPhone and expect head thumping effects like you were in a club anyways.
