Apple is giving me a 2.4 GHz SR MBP with 4gb of ram and 160gb hd with 7200 RPM, but what is the real difference between that and the standard?

7200 RPM HD... what does this really mean?

Faster access times, but not any real noticeable difference unless you're doing something that requires constant data access to the HD, editing movies, for example.
Going from a desktop with 7200rpm HD to my MBP's 5400rmp HD, I really see no significant difference.
And Apple is giving you this laptop? Or are you buying it?

So basically there is really no difference then, bummer. I am sure the 4gb of RAM will have a little difference though!!

Mine runs warm to hot to the touch. It can be a bit uncomfortable in 90º weather, but it doesn't burn your skin. Of course, I'm not transcoding video using battery power here.
Unfortunately the hard drive appears to be located to the LEFT of the trackpad, so playing games with WSAD can make your wrist sweat pretty bad.
(My) processor usually runs in the 40-50ºC range. I've never seen it get above 73º, and that was while stress-testing it.

I'd love to hear how Apple "owes you big time."
And I would so love to tell you... interesting story actually. But not only am I under contract now and not allowed to tell you (I think), but as an investor in AAPL, I do not really want it getting out either.

Hmm, I actually noticed a large difference when moving from a 5400 rpm to a 7200 rpm laptop drive. World of Warcraft is less stuttery for example, but yes that is kind of constantly accessing the drive. Also, I have a ton of bookmarks and when I'd first try to access the bookmark menu in Safari with the 5400 rpm drive it would take AGES to load those bookmarks (about 7 seconds). With the 7200 rpm drive, that was reduced to about 2-3 seconds. That may not sound like a huge difference to you, but believe me, you notice it and appreciate it. Startup times can be significantly faster if you boot off a faster drive as well.
There are other factors to consider than just the rpm though, such as cache size, number of platters and heads, and just differences in the drive technology (Native Command Queuing, for instance). However, there are few instances where a 7200 rpm drive won't be faster than a 5400 rpm drive (all else being equal).

I've just bought the same laptop that Apple is giving you (if yours is the 15" one), except mine has 2Gb RAM and the 5400rpm hard drive
It's a really beautiful machine, and the extra RAM and faster HDD can only make it even better. I doubt you could find a nicer laptop anywhere else on the planet at the moment.
Whatever the circumstances in which it comes to you... keep it, cherish it and enjoy it.

I really doubt when this thing is shipped to my doorstep that I can just leave it there unopened until I sell it.... just looking at it.
I think rather I want to or not I will keep it and have to buy an iMac on my own.

if you wanted to sell it, you could prob. get around 3K, as long as it is unopened. $2500 used for a little while. I wouldn't sell it though.
stock = 2500
HD = 250 more
memory = 250 more roughly (3rd party price)
total = 3K
comparing your MBP that you will be recieving to the current iMacs, the MBP is far superior. IMO you should just buy a large external screen, you could even go for the 24" or even 30" ACD and you would still save money than buying a new top of the line iMac with lower specs than the MBP.
