The 780 has a TDP of 250Watts.

That's right. 6 and 8 pin connections.
May 23rd, let the show begin.

So, yeah, guys, I se no problem running these on my current 1,1, I mean, I've been doing so for, like, you know, a while, and no issues, so it's safe, cool. *

s…t ... I was hoping to change my 570 with a 780 or 770 for Octane render. I could not.
I'm tired of being blocked by the mac pro's power supply.

I have retired from upgrading my Mac Pro, too much effort to use the latest GPUs.

I am tempted to put together a smallish PC for gaming later in the year, maybe a 790 when it comes out but there aren't many games that challenge my 5870 so its probably not worth it.

Effort = turn off mac, open case, install card, connect power, close case, boot, install cuda driver.

Pretty easy IMO.

Early GTX 680 cards had 6+8 and then board makers came out with 6+6 designs.

IMO we will see the same thing with the 770.

And since the 770 is only a better clocked 680, I would save a few bucks and get a 680 cheap on CL.

It's not the PSU, it's the lack of a 8-pin power trace.

Theoretically you could merge the 2x6 pins into a single large connector and then split it out into a 6 and 8-pin in order to share the added 8-pin load over both traces.
