The Adirondacks.
So, a friend of mine ordered a Black 128g Black 12. They ordered it on Apple for In Store pickup. Picked it up at their local Brick and Mortar (fairly high volume) opened it to activate at home and the battery was dead. Just the Red Battery status bar, not the one with a lightning cable shown as well. Took 6min on a Apple 20w fast charge before the phone would turn on and activate. Set up went fine, and the phone functions perfectly. It's been on for 2 days and nothing seems significant with battery life or use. Battery indicates 100%.

I checked their Serial number on Chipmunk and discovered it was a week 42 iPhone 12 assembled in October 2020. It's a verified new phone.

1. How the heck did their Apple store have a 7m old 128g Black 12 in stock to sell them???????

2. Would you be concerned that it most likely sat for months with the battery at 1%? My understanding is this is not good for Li-ion batteries? It seems perfectly fine now according to them. Would you ask for a newer phone that had not sat for months with a dead battery? They have Apple Care. I suggested they just call Apple and have a note placed in their file that the phone was delivered with a dead battery and was 7m old at the time of purchase.

I'd be inclined to just keep it and monitor. Any advice?

Thanks for responding. I was just wondering if the Li-ion might be compromised being at 1% for so long. I’m sure it will be ok.

Thanks again for taking the time to respond.

I dont have the iPhone 12 but if you can compare battery life with someone who has the iPhone 12 it might be helpful.
