8 GB RAM? Worth it?

I'm going to buy an iMac next month, and I was wondering if the 8GB of RAM upgrade is worth getting from Apple, considering it costs $1,000. Is that price significantly higher than what it would cost me at another store? And if so, can you tell me some vendors who might have better prices? Thanks.

apple selling ram is almost criminal in my eyes with how they price it

You'll pay a lot more buying from Apple. Try OWC. I'll probably get a 4 GB module from them for my uMBP.

Nope, the price for 8GB is just ridiculous right now, just wait till it drops down.

When it gets below $300 I'll get one to bump to 6GB. When it gets below $200, I'll go from that to 8 GB.
