Anyone know if 800MHz memory is on the way for the new MBP's to take advantage of the faster FSB?

I will want to upgrade to 4Gb down the road, but if the faster stuff is coming I'll just hold off a bit.

800mhz memory is already available, however your current system will not support faster than 667 so there is nothing to wait for

edit: to clarify my point

Yep. And I guess we're also waiting for 4gig sticks to leverage the 8GB RAM potential of the SR.;)

which also will not work in your macbook pro because this particular cpu? i think it is, or something in there, only supports 4gb, sorry.

FSB != Memory Bus. The memory controller is limited to 667MHz.

what is the limitation in this instance?? the memory bus would be the limitations wouldnt it? i dont understand why intel didnt speed it up.. theyre still behind :(

Please check the Guide on memory, all is revealed there.

Squeeks and floptical beat me to the post. :)

lol you wrote that!!! very nice, big long technical words :)

The limitation is in the 965 (945 macbook) chipset which just doesn't run the memory at 800mhz. Probably because there is little advantage in speed, more heat and very poor memory timings.

At the moment laptop memory speed isn't really a limiting factor for anything. Its fast enough for turbocache/whatever ati & intel call it (acting as video ram) as its only ever used in low end videocards which don't need a lot of memory bandwidth (i.e. 7400, 8400, intel integrated etc).

so what about the MBP SR laptops?? can they support 800mhz? i was under the impression that they couldnot
