802.11n - Which Version? Draytek router

Hi,

I am interested in buying a Draytek Vigor 2820n router. It implements draft 2 of the 802.11n standard.

I have a first edition aluminium iMac. I know the wireless card in it supports 802.11n, but I can't seem to find out which version, or indeed if it matters.

I want to make sure the vigor 2820n will work with my iMac using 802.11n before buying it.

Does anyone know what 802.11n standards the iMacs support or have any experience with this router and an iMac.

there really is not guarantee's unless the final specs of 802.11n is finalize When that comes out they'll jsut flash the firmware most likely to get it within specs. The hardware wise is pretty much set in stone it's just the softwarelimitation that hte IEEE needs to standardize on i believe.

Well, there are some guarantees, draft 2 of the 802.11n standard will be fully compatible with the final ratified version of the standard for a start.

I know what version of 802.11n the vigor 2820n conforms to (draft 2) so if I could figure out what version of the standard the apple airport card meets then that would also give me a clue. If that also support draft 2 then it is a pretty safe bet that it would work with the vigor 2820n without problems.

Does any know what the actual specs of the apple airport card are?

Does it support 802.11n draft 2?

Any help appreciated.

Did you figure it out yet? I have Draytek 2800VG which also has 802.11n Draft 2.0- but it doesnt seem to work with internal airport wifi.

I know that Airport Extreme claims it is Draft 2.0 ready- but has anyone tested this with Draytek routers?

Which mac's support this 802.11n Draft 2.0 in any case?

I've not been able to find the answer yet regarding whether the airport card in my iMac supports draft 2, but I have bought the 2820n now and it seems to work fine with my iMac in n mode.

I did experience a loss of wireless connection a couple of times but that hasn't happened for a while now.

The 2820n uses a broadcom chipset and so does the airport card so maybe that helps them work together. I'm not sure about the 2800VG.

You can tell whether your mac supports 802.11n by going into Network Utility, selecting Network Interface (en1) from the drop down and looking at the details.

The Model will say 'Wireless Network Adapter (802.11 a/b/g/n)' if n is enabled. It's worth noting that some earlier models will support n, but this has to be enabled first apparently.
