Could anyone help me out in using my school's wireless 802.1x? I really don't know what I'm doing when it comes to networks, but the website at our school (http://www.uic.edu/depts/accc/networ...acleopard.html) says to use TTLS, LEAP, PEAP, MD5. How on EARTH do I set this up? Lion tries to connect, but keeps on asking for my credentials. I've tried to use the iPhone Configuration tool, but honestly, I'm thinking I'm just using it wrong. I created a profile and added in all this stuff (nowhere in the configuration tool does it allow me to click on MD5) and when I connect, sometimes Lion allows me to use the configuration I've created, but it still doesn't work and cycles through asking for my username and password (both of which are correct and work with my Bootcamp partition, which uses SecureW2 http://www.uic.edu/depts/accc/network/wireless/winvista.html). Ah!! Drives me crazy.

They also say that if you are having problems you should contact them. That sounds like a much better idea than flailing blindly like you are doing.
Of course, since you are using an in-development OS, they are going to tell you that they can't support you, which they can't since they are not under NDA. In other words: if you don't know how to do this yourself, you are not a good candidate for using pre-release software. Trying to use the iPhone configuration tool to solve this proves that point.

I did discuss this with my school's admin. The Mac developer for ACCC said they don't have anything in the works for Lion and are still working on getting Android platforms to work with our wireless network. Glad I used the Developer Preview so I didn't waste $30 and not have functioning internet for months.
Try being more constructive with your comments next time. Otherwise, don't project your bitterness on me.

It is even easier now to configure or install 802.1x wireless security thing.
Just download mobilconfig file from uic's support webpage (http://www.uic.edu/depts/accc/iphone/UIC.mobileconfig ), and double click on it while you are running on the Lion.
It will install and ask your NetID and pass. That's it. you should be online in couple of minutes!

I did answer your question. I told you what security protocol they were using, and pointed you at the documentation about that. I even prepped you for the answer you did get back.
You just seem upset because I did not coddle you and tell you the answer you wanted to hear. And you implication is that you have pirated the Developer Preview (since $99 > $30), further strengthening my view that you are not a developer (since problems like this are exactly what developers would be on the program to find). You may not like this view, since it interferes with the view of yourself that you would like to have. But it does seem accurate.
All of these were constructive statements. They were just not the ones you wanted to hear... come to think of it, that is nearly an (obtuse) definition of a constructive statement.
Hey thanks for responding!! Yeah, I tried that and still doesn't want to work. I'm not sure what's wrong with it at this point. I'll try that config specifically and see what happens. Thanks so much!
PS. it's really interesting that when I took the computer in, they tech guys didn't know what Lion was or had ever heard of it.
I apologize for being upset at you. Just really frustrating that I had no access to the internet, despite throwing the works at it.

Oh nice, I noticed they have the certificate embedded in the config file rather than looking it up off the network. Probably will make it much easier for everyone to install it. Too bad Windows still has to use SecureW2.
