Noticed this morning that my 2015 15" rMBP battery was not full, which was odd since I charged it in last night. I'm using an Apple 85W Magsafe 2 AC adapter (A1424).

In the battery menu, it shows 'Battery is not Charging' and 'Power Source is AC adapter'. LED on the MagSafe connector is not illuminated.

At first I was worried something had gone wrong with the laptop, but I tried it with my 2013 13" rMBP and saw identical results. I also cleaned the contacts on the MagSafe connector, but it hasn't made a difference. Interestingly I can (barely) charge the 2015 with my 45W third-party AC adapter.

Any ideas what may have happened? This is effectively a near-new AC adapter (bought 2 months ago with the 2015 15" which was secondhand, but the adapter was still in shrink-wrap). Thanks.

Try resetting your SMC for your lapto, also your pram, I had this happen to me and though the smc fixed it for a while I ended up buying a new charger... no problems since.

I had to buy a new Magsafe 2 charger for my 2015 15" MBP about a year ago when the old one quit working. They wear out like any other electronics. No problem since getting a new one from Apple.
The near new 2nd hand charger could be a problematic knock-off.

It seems your choices are a replacement charger or having a Tech check/test your MBP if the SMC reset does not work.

If you need a new charger you can consider buying a USB C charger and use a USB C to MagSafe cable. Works fine on my late 2013 15.

Thought I'd followed up on this thread but I guess not...

Turns out the on-board charging circuitry on the Mac had gone bad. (First tried a new charger, then sent the laptop in for repair). Looks like the rMBP 2015 is not quite as bulletproof as one might hope...
