8600m GT vs 2600HD

I was wondering how the gpu in the new imacs fare compared to that of the SR MBP. I did a google search and saw a couple of 3DM06 scores in the region of 3600 for both GPUs! Can anyone confirm this?

Yeah, they appear to be comparable. Drivers for both are improving all the time. The one area that the 8600 beats the 2600 handily is AA and AF.

everything i've seen shows the 2600 HD Pro isn't that great but the better 2600 HD (xt or something) is really good.

I'd say the 8600mGT is better from what i've seen. Do a search i think this has been discussed in detail before.
