Here's the sitz. Works fine on wifi, leave wifi and it's "sometimes it gets data, sometimes doesn't get data", calls, texts still function.

T-Mobile: Got new sim card. Worked as expected for about 3 days. Wifi data, cell data all OK. Then stops.

If I do reset network settings it works until I again go onto wifi then leave and get "Not connected" message and no data.

Had apple via chat check and they say hardware and software are ok. T Mobile says account and everything in order. My wife has an 8 and it works fine, same with an X we have. Just my 8Plus that sucks.

Any thoughts on this?

I get that you're being a good citizen and trying to resolve the problem by checking here first. Applaud the willingness to check and not just be lazy about it. But things like these are a definitely exchange situation. I've never heard of connectivity just stopping or working intermittently. Could have been Tmobile except that wifi is spotty as well. Definitely a defect on the phone. Run to the Apple store and resolve it. You paid good money for it, it should work like everyone else's.

Sorry for delay in update: took to genius bar they check hardware and software and said all OK. Then he noticed I had VPN app. Asked if I used it "YES". Said why? "security". Said iphones don't work well with VPNs. I said then why do they have it as an option setting? Couldn't answer. End of story: He deleted the VPN app (HotSpot Shield) and the problem has not recurred. Now I feel I'm vulnerable.

Vulnerable how?

By the way, mentioning that you use VPN in the OP would have been useful as far as trying to troubleshoot connectivity issues like this.

99% of people don't have security VPNs on their iphones (ok I pulled that figure out of my ass but Ill bet my life its an absolutely tiny amount of users have it) and we're all fine......I really wouldn't worry about it

Genius is correct.

iPhone doesn’t work with crappy VPN apps like the one you mentioned. It works well with real ones like Cisco AnyConnect.

You are right but then maybe I should have mentioned every app I use to cover all the bases. Lesson learned. thanks

Checked it out and it seems it's for companies, multiple accounts. I was just looking for me, surfing, travel overseas and getting some protection/anonymity. IPVanish is another that seems to get good reviews; what you think? Thanks

Well, the ones that affect the data connection would certainly be relevant given the subject.
