I have a new 8th generation iPad with the Touch ID home button. Have noticed that simply pressing and releasing the home button with a finger whose fingerprint has been registered will not unlock it, you have to continue holding your finger on the sensor for a second or two for it to unlock, otherwise, it will just give you the prompt to use Touch ID or enter your passcode. My iPhone 6s unlocks instantly, even if you barely tap the sensor with your finger. Is this normal behavior for the 8th generation iPad?

The 8th generation iPad uses the slower and older 1st generation of Touch ID. The iPhone 6S was the first to introduce a much faster 2nd generation Touch ID.

Not true according to Wikipedia:

The 8th generation uses version 2. The 7th was the last one of the entry level iPads with version 1.

Interesting... I guess the other question is, has anyone else noticed the same sort of laggy behavior on an 8th generation iPad? I'm trying to figure out whether there is something wrong with mine.

It's disappointing that a newly redesigned iPad handles this worse than a six year old iPhone.

Given Apple doesn't mention 2nd gen TouchID for the iPad 8th gen, that article's probably incorrect.

Wikipedia isn't known for being factual.

On any other day you’d be the first to point out loudly how this is a rumours forum.

But point taken it can be wrong like any man made written thing on the web and probably is here.
