Hi!
I have a 2020 iPad (8th generation)
The home button works fine, but it doesn‘t move at all when touched...it seeme as though it’s actually just a flat sensor that detects touches.

I haven’t seen anything online that suggests this should be the case, and as a result I am worried- is the button supposed to “click” like the physical buttons on older iPads, and has my button jammed in some way?

I‘d be grateful if anyone who owns an iPad on here can let me know whether or not this is the case.

I’m 99% sure the home button is not moveable and the feel is controlled by haptics. Make sure in settings haptics is enabled.
That only applies to iPhone 7 or newer. iPads have never had a haptic home button. I'm willing to bet that the physical clicking mechanism itself is broken.

It’s possible the home button mechanism is just stuck and not broken. It might have got some grime or grease or something from your fingers stuck in it. I’ve seen tips that suggest using rubbing alcohol to clean it. Might be worth looking into.

I have just received an 8th gen model today and the home button is mechanical! so one of us has a defective machine.
