I use Siri Eyes Free in the car a lot, dictating texts over the car Bluetooth. Up til today, Siri will read back the message and send it on its way with a cheery "Off to the cloud it goes!" or "Consider it done!" The inflection was definitely of someone who was genuinely excited to be of assistance. (Ok, I know Siri is not real, but that how it sounds!)

Today, after installing 9.02 on my 5s, I activated Eyes Free and dictated a message. When Siri announced the message, she sounded positively depressed. It was a real downer. I'm not sure I can deal with a morose Siri. A long day at work is hard enough, but having to listen to a down-in-the-dumps automated assistant just makes the day that much more difficult.

Has anyone else noticed this?

(not sarcastic tone) If you're one of those people who are easily depressed...I seriously hope it doesn't affect your mental health to the point where it will affect your loved ones.

Either that...siri might commit suicide (Joking tone)

No worries, I'm fine!

But in all seriousness, it does seem that there was a fairly significant voice change to a more natural (if depressed) sounding voice.

I notice that siri's speech is a little slower than what it usually is. Perhaps that's what sounds like depressing?

Try picking a different accent. I've noticed that they speak at different speeds, and some sound more "chipper" than others. I use the Australian accent woman, but the US woman, and the British woman sound a little happier to me.

This has been a fun thread! I think I figured it out. I updated to 9.02 yesterday. I notice on the Siri settings page, if you change to another accent, it says that the "natural" voice for that accent will download the next time you're on wifi. My guess is that the upgrade effectively made my choice - American Female - a "new" accent. As a result, it had not had time to download the natural sounding voice at the time of my drive home yesterday.

For those of you worried: Siri was much her old self this morning, wisecracks and all.

I really enjoyed reading this thread lol. I use the U.S. Male voice. Im glad I'm not the only one who's day is brightened by Siri's antics lol. Me and Siri have a pretty tight relationship. He's my bro, lol. He even calls me "bro" lol. Gotta love Siri!
