So I'm looking to get either the 9.7 or 12.9 iPad Pro, in which I will mainly be taking a lot of notes with. I would rather the 9.7 due to it being more mobile and less obtrusive on a desk. However, do you guys think the 9.7 is large enough to be taking notes with all the time? Thanks!

Yes. I took a LOT of notes on my iPad Air 2 and on its two predecessors, using Noteability and other apps.

That said, note taking on the 12.9 iPP is a joy. (Less scrolling/zooming. "Feels" more like paper.)

It is more like paper.

A4 paper - 8.27" x 11.7"
US letter - 8.5" x 11"
iPad Pro - 7.74" x 10.32"
iPad - 5.82" x 7.76"

A4 and US Letter are within 4% of each other.
The 12.9" iPad Pro has an area 85% of US Letter.
The 9.7" iPad (Pro) has an area 48% of US Letter.

The difference is very significant.

Should be fine. I take notes on my 12.9" pro in split screen with no issues.

Okay, sounds like it should be okay then! I am sure the 12.9 would probably be ideal, but if the 9.7 is good enough then I definitely prefer the size. Although, it is kind of sad that I can get the 12.9 for $630 from Best Buy open box (which is like new) and the 9.7 will be $600...

Im sure it will work perfectly fine. Though i take notes at work exclusively on my 12.9" pro and it is fantastic, just like having a full size note pad.

It was large enough for all the iPad 1, 2, 3, 4, Air, Air 2 (and even Mini 1, 2, 3, 4) users before September 2015... I'm assuming it's still doable in 2016.

Notability/OneNote is my tool of choice, Evernote was also good but I stopped using it.

Don't underestimate that extra half pound. Makes a difference when holding one handed.

I get for some it it a huge difference....but I walk around with mine for long days when onsite....doesn't phase me to hold it one handed to use. So if wanting the larger screen size, may be worth the weight for you.

The 9.7" is fine for taking notes... Mine is an Air 2, so it would be even better with the new one, using the Pencil. I also have a 12.9" Pro, and often take notes on it in split screen, with email or other apps on the other side. When I used to use paper notebooks at work, I preferred the smaller memo-pad sized ones anyway.

Sure, you can fit a lot on a page with the 12.9, but scrolling is easy, and with a tablet, you have near infinite pages in your notebook. I really like the 12.9 for some things, but I wouldn't carry it around the office like info with the 9.7. The difference in weight is very noticeable, and it's tough to one-hand the big one. I usually balance it on my forearm if I have to use it standing up.

It's great having both, but if I had to downsize my fleet, I'd probably carry a 12" MacBook and a 9.7" iPad.
