My fiancee updated her iphone SE and ipad pro 9.7 to the last update few days ago.

all working fine on both devices bar on the ipad there is a red dot with a number 1 in it on the imessage icon.

she opens it and no waiting message.
she reboots (4 times so far) still there.
Deletes all messages and reboots, still there.

this is not happening on the iphone se.

short of resetting the ipad to factory, any ideas?

It is annoying her.

Try a hard reset: hold sleep/wake button & home button at the same time until iPad turns off and Apple logo appears.

Try disabling iMessage and then enabling it again: settings > messages

Try resetting network settings: settings > general > reset (you’ll have to re-enter any saved WiFi passwords)

try the above but not hard reset.

my fiancee even phoned apple who took over remotely.

They said they do not know how to fix lol.

gonna back up the ipad and reset it.
sure fire way to clear it then.

Did a soft reboot earlier w/ no joy, then a hard reset just now & all is well on my 9.7” pro.

Same thing happened to me on my 9.7 IPP. Only way I could fix it was factory reset and restore from iCloud backup.. Very annoying!
