$950 for imac G5 2.1 Ghz - good deal?

20", 1 GB RAM, AE and BT, 250 GB HD, etc. Basically stock + 512 RAM. Used but in very good condition.

Seems like a great deal to me. Maybe too good? What do you all think?

looks good. do you know the user? can you still buy applecare (if that matters to you), if you don't know them, ask for the serial number and apple can verify any service history...

i'd bite if all turns out well.

Obviously jealous.

For some reason that has never been explained to me all UK Apple stuff costs 1.5 x what it costs you in the US.

Yeah, it really does suck. Its the same for pretty much everything is this country. Except perhaps Marmite..... :confused:

But, in keeping with the topic of the thread - it soudns like a fabulous deal, if its genuine!
 
it has extended applecare, so it does seem like quite a deal.

However, it's on craigslist, so I'm wary. On the other hand the guy responded promptly in normal English and sounds legit. I just don't like the idea of showing up to some strangers house with $950 in cash.

Leave the cash home. Tell him you want to come look, as you're considering a few other computers as well. When you go over, ask him for a time range to come if you're interested later that day. Then, if you are, and everything seemed ok on the visit, I would bring a friend (or two) and go buy it. Definitely don't go alone though.
 
Sounds like a good deal to me, that's a very solid machine.

I'd say grab a couple friends and go check it out. It sounds like it's legit so I doubt you'll have any problems, but definitely don't go alone because you just never know who's out there.
 
Why does everyone say that there is such a big difference in price between the US and other (Oz & UK) stores?

Exchange 1 British pound = 1.8975 U.S. dollars

US Mac Pro $2,499
UK Mac Pro £1,446 or $2,744

Just a $245 dollar difference, 10% more

That 10% difference can get you a couple gigs of RAM. Even though it may look small, when you figure what you can use that 10% for, it can add up.
 
I was just trying to show that the difference is not as large as people make it out to be. I know that it is not negligible.
 
i just sold that exact computer to a friends father for 1200
sounds like you got a great deal
 
its a good deal for sure!! if its in good condition and has no problems go for it if thats what you want!

Do the transaction at the bank. Have this guy follow you to your local bank and withdraw the money where cameras are clearly present. As to how you get him to come to the bank? Ask him if he likes cash.
