Hello all, first post, apologies in advance if this is in the wrong section or something:rolleyes:

After hours of searching forums, ive come to the end with my ipod classic 80gb 6th gen.
It all started with the typical reboot look, apple logo and restart, so i got it into disk mode, tried to restore using itunes but got an error along the way, so gave up after a few attempts through resets and disk mode tries.
I went with the diagnostics mode, and its during that, im not sure how but it just blacked out, effectively shut off.

For a few hours now, ive been trying to get it to come back on, resets, disk mods, diagnosis mode commands and nothing, not a sign.
No hard drive noise, have plugged it into the wall, and still nothing.

I have both windows and mac, to get the tiny amount of activity i did get, i had to connect the ipod and do the usual reset commmand to get anything and used the ipod reset utility on Leopard, which detected the ipod, but couldnt give any stats or actually reset it, it was all "unknown". So i went to disk utility hoping to format it but its not showing up.

Tried windows xp, makes the *found new hardware* sound, shows up in disk management as the apple usb driver device, but nowhere else, not in my computer or anything.

I really have come to the end of the line with it, and if there are no suggestions il be forced to open it up and try disconnecting the battery to give it a reset.

Any help would be much appreciated.:)

At a last resort call Apple. If you can't do anything, Apple can. After that and it STILL doesn't work, bring it to a Apple Store. They might be able to help in person. If all else fails, just iQuit :)p) and get another one.

I wish my nano would show up in disk managment. It would give me some hope! But I think the dang thing is dead. Best of luck! I can feel your frustration when a device responds but just not enough...

yeah its super frustrating,
i took my classic apart, and changed the battery and still no luck
dunno how it can just die as im on it, and not come back :(

i hope it helps

Hold ur Horses!! Go to The apple website becoz I think theres a battery replacement scheme, to replace worn out batteries or if apple do not help at all or cant do anything then just Buy a new iPod or just use ur money on something else, BTW... How long did ur battery last???
