Is there a computer company for professionals out there, that makes serious computers with serious power? `Cause clearly Apple is not that company anymore. They are consumer electronics manufacturer and I really dislike them for that, I can´t stand the iToy hype.

I really need more CPU power than the ancient 2010 12-core Mac Pro. I don´t like to build my own PCs, so I need to find a respected company who sells pre-built computers for professionals. It would be nice to have OS X in it though...

HP and Dell do provide workstation computers with Windows as OS, but since no new Xeon CPUs arrived since 2010, they will be using the same CPUs as the current Mac Pro.
The Mac Pro will likely see an update in the first half of 2012, when the Sandy Bridge Xeons are released and available to Apple, to make a more current machine.

Or you could look at Alienware and some other "high-end" companies, whose names I can't recall.

Personal Computers will be limited by their architecture. You may want to move up to some higher level of computing platform like those made by Fujitsu however they wont be running OSX.

If you want the ultimate in top spec PC's there is just one way to go...I did it for years, and some of my old stuff is still doing service with buddies.

Build it yourself....Plenty of places will sell you mono bundles etc. and it's not rocket science to do.

Another one of these threads???

OP no offense but if you actually knew more about technology you'd know Intel hasn't released updated Xeon processors, its what everyone is waiting for.

You can switch to Dell, or HP but you won't get a performance increase. I know because I support workstations for a living. (Dell's, HP's, Macs, Linux Workstations, etc).

None of these "Mac isn't for professionals" threads make sense seeing how as its the software on the machine that gets professional jobs done, not the OS itself.

I'm glad Apple aren't supporting whiny professionals to be honest. All you seem to do is complain about everything and about how much money you've lost because Apple added feature X.

You should just buy a HP or Dell workstation, I'm sure the support you end up paying for has some "whiny time" for you and some customer service representative built in.

I believe that Apple is as amazing a company. Yes it has all the ITOYS" as you claim , but those are as important to Apple like any other products they have, to advance into the future of computing.

I had asked the same question in one of my threads and I ended up realising that HP AND DELL dont offer much more than what Apple does.
They are almost the same price too my amazment.

And the price you pay for a *COMPLETE SYSTEM* which only Apple makes
( HARDWARE + its own OS ) is the premium you pay at Apple.

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1313002/

So I really dont agree with you saying its not the company it used to be.
The Only company that has advanced in the last 30 years is APPLE and nobody needs to see a proof for that.

So would you rather stick with a company which sees the future or would you rather stick with the companies which have STAGNATED and COPIED for years is you choice.

Apple should soon come out with a Mac Pro ( if Intel gets their chips out in time ) for the proffessionals which we all love and all this talk would be laid to rest.

the choice is yours mate :)

Loosely translates as "I'm fed up with apple for <insert reason here>, so I'm going to have a trashy, thinly veiled dig at apple and their users".

Your mother would be proud OP.

Huh? The 2010 12 core still has the newest workstation processors on the market. The Xeons haven't really been updated since 2010 by Intel.

As far as who builds more professional computers... I don't think you have a lot of choices, especially once Windows 8 hits. The ARM version of Windows 8 doesn't even let you load your own apps, Microsoft's app store only.

Apple is late because Intel is late. I suggest you go to Intel forums and complain there.

Complaining there will be just as useless as complaining here, but at least it will be the correct forum.

I agree completely. I have yet to see a valid reason how Snow Leopard/Lion/Mountain Lion "hinders pros". Oh wait...it doesn't it only hinders those who can't make a teeny adjustment to their workflow every few years (and by teeny I mean using arrow keys instead of clicking the arrows at the edge of a browser window that are no longer there).

Too many people like to think they are pros, but real pros in many industries have to adjust all the time to changes, daily builds in proprietary software, workflow enhancements etc. I can't imagine telling my boss "Oh I can't do this job anymore because its different than what I'm used to". I'd be fired in a heartbeat.

Yes, you have to take a look at PC's / Servers of the HP or Dell business computer series (not the consumer) but you'll pay serious money, normally at least three times the "consumer" grade.

Now, fwiw, in days bygone we used to have tube radios, amplifiers etc. In those days there were different "grades" of tubes (valves), the "nromal consumer grade". "SQ" (Special Quality , supposedly designed for 5000 - 10000 hours depending on manufacturer) and military "rugged" grade. There was a large study done about which ones were the most reliable tubes.

If you were throwing your stuff around then the military were the ones to go for (just like the Panasonic Toughbook). However for home use the longest and most reliable and consistent were those which were produced in the largest numbers, yes you guessed it: the cheap "consumer grade". I've seen enough problems with "business grade" computers to be wary without inside knowledge (which I no longer have since I left the industry 10 years ago).

Carrying on about this: I have had a large number of IBM / Lenovo Thinkpad computers (always the "flagship", or "top of the line", models) and one a number of occasions I have replaced later the CPU with a different one. They were very properly engineered, good mating surfaces between heatsink and CPU / GPU etc. Have had some of those running simulations 16+ hours at 100% CPU load without breaking a sweat, in other words they would not exceed 60 - 65C with later models, more gruntier CPU's towards the higher end. The earlier models did not even get that high.

I was attracted to Apple because of the reputed "high quality" and "high reliability" after a 20 year absence. Last weekend I took my Mac mini 2011 apart because of the temperature spiking as soon as a load came on the the machine. I replaced the thermal grease with Tuniq TX-4 (selected for having the best gap filling results) and am happy with the more evened out temperature spiking. However at that time I discovered the crappy quality inside which reminded me of the Japanese electornics industry of 20 years ago: fancy ont eh outside but under the hood being a mess. Specifically: the copper part on the heatsinks are stamped and far from being flat. The copper plate for the GPU was not even sitting "flat" against the heatsink and under a slightly different "angle" so when pressed without compound in place there was a reasonable gap on one side. The connector from the power supply to the logic board was not plugged in properly. There are some rubber grommets holding some screws for the HDD but with tightening the screws (during factory assembly) these were totally damaged and no longer functional. Heatsink grease was so liberally applied that it spileld over quite far on bothh CPU and GPU SMD components taking quite some delicate work to clean up.

There are plenty of reports of those that have accidentally damaged the IR socket (pulled it off the logic board).

Then there is an issue with the HD3000 GPU and a rarely used framerate.

Cannot run this machine at 100% for extended periods because the CPU will reach 100C.....

Sorry but this imho is not worth the premium Apple is asking.

I would suggest you read a number of ApplesAOranges posts.

Can we spell TROLL ??

Can we define chronic whiner?

Holy cow, you weren't kidding. Every single post I found was a complaint. In one he did promise to ditch everything Apple. Fingers crossed.

I'll feed the little troll.

You wont save any money for dual socket. Fastest Dual socket is still the X5690 @3.46GHz Dual Hex. Not too much faster than your "slow" 12-core Mac Pro. Prices after those processors are $7800.00 stock. They do have Xeon E3's but those are lesser than the X58 Xeons you currently are using. Quad only with less cache.

I have never set anyone on an ignore list before on a message board, but this guy clearly talks out as @$$ and felt it warranted.

He wants an iMac without a display, but then he complains the Mac Pro isn't powerful enough?

Riiiiiight.
