Like so many out there, I'm looking to get the Macbook Air whenever it refreshes. This will be my first Apple computer (not my primary computer though).

What I'm wondering is this: I've never kept tabs on Apple before, so I don't know what they've been like in the past. So I'm wondering how their supply is on new releases? Will the Air sell out day #1 and be difficult to get? Or are they fairly good about supply right off the bat? Unfortunately the only Apple store that existed within a 15 minute driving distance shut down after being around for only a few years (opened and closed relatively recently). So I'll have to drive out to Vancouver to get to an Apple store, which will be something like a 40+ minute drive. I don't want to drive there to find out that the place is packed with people buying stuff and what I want isn't there. :p

Also wondering... is their back-to-school $100 deal valid only at Apple stores? Or is it actually promoted at Apple resellers such as Futureshop/Best Buy/London Drugs/etc? If so, I guess there's no difference purchasing from an Apple reseller as opposed to an Apple store?

Nah, only iPhones and iPads sell on day 1. Not macbook airs...
Also, no 100 only in the apple store nowhere else.

On the fence
I believe back to school is only at Apple stores or authorized campus resellers. Generally, the supply for computers is plenty, since they are a good bit more expensive than iPads, iPhones, etc., so they sell in lower volume.

Locally owned re-sellers, at least the one where I live, give 100 gift cards for future in-store purchases.

Re: Back to School Promos

Best Buy is offering a $100 store gift card with the purchase of a Mac for education purposes. You just have to specifically ask. IMO this is a much better value if you are looking to buy a case or other accessories for your new machine than the App Store card. Just depends on your needs. Options are good.

Yes, but don't forget that you also get discount education pricing if you're a student. You can save an extra $100-$200 (depending on what options you choose) on top of the $100 gift card if you go through Apple.

I wish Amazon had some promo. Because they usually sell for cheaper than Apple plus no tax and free shipping as well.
