A couple of strange Boot Camp issues...

I installed XP last night with no problems. Today, I booted up my computer holding Option (so as to boot into OS X). Fine. Then I rebooted later without holding Option, expecting to go back into OS X, but instead it booted into XP. This is okay, but I thought the default is supposed to be whatever OS you booted into previous to the restart.

Second, once in OS X, I tried to download a torrent file onto my desktop. It wouldn't show up until I found the file using the search function in a finder window. I clicked on the file in the Finder window, and the file showed up on the desktop. These aren't big problems, but they're strange and a little inconvenient, and I was wondering if any of you guys have experienced the same things. Thanks in advance.

Boot into Mac OS X open System Prefrences click startup disk and click Mac OS X and then click restart. That should set it back as default.

Have you got safari's prefrences set to download to desktop? If not click safari tab in safari and go to prerences choose general and you should see "Download files to:" then just choose desktop. I hope this helped

As for the BitTorrent thing, yes, I have Firefox set to download everything to the desktop. The problem is, it doesn't actually show up on the desktop until I do a search with the Finder. The files always come up as being on the desktop, even though I can't see them. I click the file in the Finder search window, and they appear on the desktop. It's not a big problem, just a perplexing one. I posted that in this forum because it didn't happen until I started using Boot Camp.

Ah sorry I thought you where talking about the torrent link files, I didnt realise that you meant the actual torrents.. well have you got Bittorrent set to download to desktop?

The solution

Had the exact same problem as you.
Heres the solution.


-Go to disk utility (located in applications then utilities
-Once you've opened that, repair disk permissions. Don't bother verifying.
-I don't think this is necessary, but restart your computer.
-Everything is okay.
-to test out, press shift+apple+3 to take a screenshot, it should be in your desktop.
-second test, put that file in the trash and empty trash, it should disappear.
