I want to purchase a non Apple 27"+ display, so i can plug in my MacBook (A1534) in order to work projects of Photography, Illustrator design, a little Videography (Premiere) and very little gaming. Anyone using a display for similar or same needs like me? Please let me know what display you're using and if your happy with it.
Also how did u decide on what display to purchase, perhaps there is some site that will compare displays?

I'm using the Dell Ultrasharp 3011 monitor. It is a great monitor and once calibrated I could send images off the the labs and they would come back spot on. I have been very happy with it.

When I bought it the 3014 was due but I was worried that they were going to mess up the color rendering on it. The small 2014 models had dropped the 99% coverage of the AdobeRGB color space and I didn't want to take the chance that the 3014 would do the same when they switched from cold cathod to LED. Turns out it did not.

Now the current version is the 3017 and still supports the excellent color range. I would still recommend it based on the earlier model. The size is really nice for editing photos. The 4:3 aspect ratio isn't the best for video but I've used Premiere on it without issues.

Is there some site that compared displays that you could suggest? I wish there was a comparison with Apple's Cinema Displays ;)

I am using the 24" LG Thunderbolt 3 4K display that I got at the Apple store last December. I don't think they still offer it now, though. Possibly available in other places, though. The screen is excellent, colors are accurate and it simply plugs into my 2018 MBP with one Thunderbolt 3 cable and that's it. The display also powers both itself and the computer. It has a few ports on the back, which is useful, too. LG also makes a 5K Thunderbolt 3 display in the 27" size.

I'm using a BenQ SW271 Photo/video monitor. If you don't want the 4K version, look at the SW270C.

As for working out how to choose, you are looking at the following list. In no particular order and everyone will have a different priority list.

  • Price point
  • Accurate colour
  • uniformity
  • Size
  • resolution
  • connectivity
  • Colour space
  • Shading hood included
