I don't need a laptop, don't like the current imac w/ the big chunk of glare- creating white plastic, don't need a powermac, but would like dual monitor capability (preferably w/o a hack). What I would like is a "transportable"--an imac brain in a mini-like form which would dock to a 17" or 20" display/base, with isight, or plug into a tv (maybe another dock) for front row. Is this too much to ask for? Obviously Apple's considered this. Would this cut too much into other higher margin sales, or could this be the next imac? Any thoughts, comments or rumors?

Your asking basically what the iMac features, but you don't want the iMac. You want a more portable one, I see, but Apple doesn't have a portable version of the iMac other than the MacBook Pro, but you don't want a laptop.

you're asking for technologies vs compactness that's yet to come.... which century are you from....? :p :p

Get a 12" iBook, that will dock to a 17" or 20" external monitor. Powerful enough.

You are picking the technologies you like the most from what computers offer today. But you can't get all of them in your own configured box, gotta get what is offered.

Or just get a used Dual PowerMac G4 Quicksilver if you don't wanna buy a new Powermac G5. Those duals are really fast.
