1. What happens to PowerPC apps when you upgrade to Lion? Do they get deleted or...?

2. I still use iMovie HD 06' (yes, it's supported in Lion) and I was wondering if Auto-Save will apply to this program or does it just apply to every program regardless? Was wondering if developers have to update their apps to support this feature.

1. I suspect they don't get deleted during an upgrade, but I did not have any PowerPC apps to test this theory. You just won't be able to run them. They will tease you with an icon :)
2. Applications have to be changed to take advantage of Lion APIs so your version of iMovie won't get any Lion support.
 
PPC apps don't get deleted, their icon gets changed with a circle and a slash over it.

But maybe, just maybe, I'll ditch iMovie HD when Final Cut Pro X gets released. :p

1. When iWork gets updated for OS X Lion, do you think a new version will be released that they charge for or just a free update on the Mac App Store?

2. What will happen to the 'Software Update...' in Finder? Since OS X Lion will be bought off the Mac App Store, will all future OS X updates come from there? Will Apple get rid of the 'Software Update...' entirely?

Hate to hijack the thread... but can you guys confirm that upgrading to Lion from SL did not break your BootCamp install of Win7?

1. It'll be a free update. The version they demoed at WWDC iWork '09.
2. Software Update is still used for OS X updates.

1. I'm not sure about Apple's future pricing plans with iWork. Odds are they will charge for it.

2. I don't think anyone knows. The software update in the "finder" can be used to push other updates, but I think updates will happen through the Apple Store. I could be wrong. In Apple's world no one knows until it happens :D

Software update isn't going anywhere, it's in DP4 and is used to push DP updates.

And while yes, we don't know what Apple will do with iWork '11 regarding pricing upgrades, we do know that they will be patching '09 for Lion, and that will be free.

You don't see Apple utilizing the software update function it the same store it is going to use to deliver the software?

What does Apple really even push through that couldn't be done in the Mac App Store? Why couldn't it disappear?

Because the app store is designed for app updates, not system updates.

Also, the App store doesn't pop up and notify you that you have an update available. The app has to be running to even notify you that you have one.

Maybe in a future OS update they will unify the two.

I had a red 1 on the App store today, it was not running and there was an update for Mactracker. It checks for updates without running.

I read some people have issues with Bootcamp and Lion. Mostly it halts on booting Windows. But I guess this will be fixed in the initial release.

Yes, all you're doing when you use the app store is downloading a separate PKG with a .dmg inside that you open separately. The App Store doesn't actually update your OS.

i think apps have to be written with the new APIs to support this.
 
I too like iMovie HD 6.0.2 and any newer Mac I bought I installed it on. Problem is that you to install it you have to put on the pertaining version of iLife. So I think I will have to get my new iMac, install iLife '08, run the installer to iMovie HD 6.0.2 and then update my iLife to the iLife '11 that comes with my iMac.

Unfortunately, yes. My older version of iMovie won't get those new features. :(
