I am planning on getting the high end 20" or low end 24" for an imac soon

My main curiosity is what performance can I expect in games (in windows because i heard bf2142 and such other games through cider are awful)
Battlefield 2
HL2-CSS-TF2-Portals-Other source games
Battlefield 2142
Oblivion
Americas Army

Etc.

I would greatly appreciate any benchmarks you can find or have because I am having much difficulty finding them.

I decided the switch to osx was worth it because windows just isnt dealing with my creativity and my pc is next to un-upgradeable so I would rather go with an imac and its very creative OS (Adobe products)

Audio - Has anyone used optical out to a reciever or DAC if so how does it sound and is it fairly satisfactory.

You'll play all those games at medium/low settings at native resolution (20", not 24"). Oblivion will run flawlessly with bloom enabled without shadows. AA will run maxed out I think. The only impossible game to run that I tried was GRAW2. 3DMark06 gave me around 4000points with catalyst 7.10.
Integrated audio chip is nice but you may have some sound glitches from time to time. (at least I do)

There's an issue with sound in XP, where you get constant 'whoosh' type noises from the speakers whenever a sound is played. But it only seems to happen with the speakers - it's fine with headphones plugged in, so I guess it would be fine with an external amp too. This is only in windows, it's fine in osx. Has anyone figured out how to fix that?

From what I've seen, I think the imac has a fairly standard PC audio chip with the usual HD/Surround stuff, and seeing as you're using a digital output there will be no noise, so it should sound fine.

Awesome

Installed Boot Camp 1.4b Instaled Xp Updated My Drivers From Ati.
Installed Call Of Duty 4 Demo!

Wow Amazing!!!!

I only get that whoosing sound when a piece of audio stops suddenly, into silence. It sounds fine otherwise for me.

Yea that seems like an ok deal if i can find somewhere with 150 off or so (ive seen it before) the upgraded 20" alu if i put in 2gb of ram

I recently build a 20" 1200 pc for a friend and it got about 5k in 3dmark 06

Any other thoughts.

Trying to finish my PC-Mac and Desktop-Laptop debate

I wish apple put in the 8600GT in instead... :(
