I know this has been discussed, but I want the most current information.

I have always planned on switching to AT&T to get an iPhone, but with unlocking getting so easy I am considering using T-mobile.

What I would like to know the most is will T-zones work today if I go buy an iPhone today? This is a screenshot from T-mobile's web site, can I just pick the Unlimited T-zones plan for $4.99 and have EDGE work on my iPhone?

When I unlock the only thing that doesn't work is Visual Voicemail right? But I still get regular voicemail.

All it takes to unlock an out of box 1.1.4 iPhone is to download ziphone and run it correct? Just a few minutes and a working computer?

I am also worried about something going wrong with the phone, and Apple knowing that I never activated it. So many people on this forum have had to have their iPhones replaced under warranty. I know that I can clear it and make it so that it looks like it was never unlocked, but they will still know that I never activated it. Will this cause any problems?

Sorry I know this has been asked before, but I am scared, and I really want to get an iPhone. :)

No problem at all. I use the 4.99/month on two OOTB 16 G 1.1.3.

If it does not work straight up, install the t-Mo logo and T-Zones patches from Tweak 1.1.3 in Installer.

T-Zones won't work straight away. You have to use the T-Zones Hack in order to allow your T-Zone plan to work.

OK, so with the $249 referb iPhones I really think that I am going to do this. Is there someone who can walk me through the process from opening the box to being on EDGE internet? I am going to try the $4.99 plan, and switch to the $19.99 total internet if it is too slow, or doesn't work.

I am also still worried about the warranty, if something goes wrong (that has nothing to do with the unlock) will I be able to get it fixed without any problems? Is it just one click to restore, and then the warranty will be fine?

Should I use iPlus instead of ziPhone? (is it easier to use the warranty this way?)

Syncing of contacts, music, movies, ringtones, and everything works the same with an unlocked phone right?

Where on earth are you finding $249 refurb iphones? I thought those were only from ATT in the NE, but you're listed as being in Utah? I'd love to pick one up at that price.

Thanks.

They showed up on AT&T's site this morning! I really hope they are still there when I get off of work. I am going to buy one today, and then make the decision on unlocking. I can't pass up this deal.

Can someone please help with my questions, I have tried searching but all of the anwers are older and so conflicting I don't know what to do. The biggest question is the warranty stuff!

Thanks -- I just picked one up. I think the answer to your questions are that, yes, you should be able to get all of the edge / internet working, but that warranty service will probably be a problem, even if you restore. It's going to be hard to convince them you've seen a problem if you never activated it, which they'll know.

ok. . . So I just got an iPhone (8gb which I upgraded to 16gb) for my 40th b-day. I was nervous as HELL but I used ziphone (I think that is what they called it . . . it is the one with the "Z" in the name) and unlocked it. It was running 1.1.3. I then used the software downloads and hacked the phone to add T-Mobile T-Zones Web support and for $5.99 I get the web, e-mail and even the ability to use the GPS Google Maps locate me thing on the phone. It is SWEET.

I did have ONE problem though which it seems was a problem with T-Mobile's network and not the phone or the unlocking. After I upgraded I would get very bad static when someone would call. I initially thought that it was the unlocking but it seems that it was the network. After a few days of trying to track down the problem I called the folks at T-Mobile and they "reset" my iPhone on the network which fixed everything.

Good luck

Well -- you should have your iPhone now, and unlocked it. Did you have luck getting it working with T-mobile, and signing it up as a go phone?

Actually it is being delivered today, so I should have it unlocked and ready to go tonight. I also added the T-zones to my phone this morning so that it will be active by the time I get it on the iPhone.

I am not going to do the Go Phone thing, I am just going to get it working on T-mobile and only worry about the warranty if I have problems. *knocks on wood*

Should I take out the AT&T sim before unlocking?

No. First of all, the refurb probably comes sort of faux-activated, so you should be able to actually verify that things are pretty much working without even plugging it in to iTunes. You should be able to turn it on, get on a wifi network, etc.

Then just follow the tutorial at http://www.hackthatphone.com/114/iphone_114_true_unlock_3946bl_mac.html

and use iplus2.0b to activate/unlock/jailbreak it. It does everything that ziphone does, as far as I can tell, but is also fully reversable, whereas parts of the ziphone unlock are not. It seems like it works great.

Good luck, I hope it works out for you. You've got 14 days to return it if it doesn't, so I wouldn't sweat it too much.

Unlock worked great!

But I cannot seem to connect to a wireless network. Please Help! Do I need to change my router settings?

EDIT: Never mind, I reset the router and all, working great now! T-zones also works great!
