1. How can I tell which version of the apple tv do I have? I bought it from the refurbished store probably close to 5years ago.

2. Nothing is stored locally, I have it streaming from my macbook, and my itunes library on my macbook is mapped to my external harddrive. On that external hardrive is where I store all my movies, and I use iflix for the import into itunes. This works great currently, thats why I'm on the fence about jailbreaking it.

What I'm curious about is why would I jailbreak it? Is it true you can get a bunch of tv channels, such as the movie channels or sports and movies with a jailbroken apple tv?

How is the quality of these currently?

I read a few things about IceLibrary and IceFilms, can someone fill me in? When you use this, are you streaming the movies or are you downloading them?

If I would jailbreak my apple tv, could I still continue to use my itunes library as is?

Go to google and put in apple tv jailbreak. It actually gives you answers.

I see things like IceFilms, SportsDevil ect.. But what I want to know is how is the quality? How easy is it to use this stuff? Can I still use my currently library if I jailbreak this.

he is right. If youre apt enough to come to mac rumors forum, find the section for apple tv, and post...after being a member for 3 years...then you can clearly google apple tv part numbers/versions and google apple tv jailbreaking...

but to answer you. If you got it 5 years ago then who knows which one you have. i believe the ATV2 came out 2 or 3 years ago and so i would assume you have the larger silver version...making yours the apple tv 1...doesnt matter what HD you have in it, but you said there is NOTHING stored locally therefore im assuming that this IS the atv1. if thats the case then ANYTHING you play that is 1080p will not work good on a bare bones atv1. atv1 will not play netflix. But it will handle any content from itunes without an issues...except HD stuff i believe. As far as icefilms and sports devil, well it depends on where you live. icefilms both downloads AND streams at the same time. Icefilms has a large collection of releases and the quality can be very good or very bad at times, depending on the upload. Sportsdevil to me shows more obscure sporting events that arent really popular with americans. what jailbreaking an atv1 is really for is to allow your atv1 to play all sorts of file formats without the apple constraints. But if you have ALL your content in itunes already well then you dont necessarily need a jailbreak. yes you can still use youre itunes library whether or not you jailbreak
