First, knock on wood. :)

Second, my new Mac Pro has been really cool so far! I'd thought I'd post to say just how much I like it, since by nature most posts are made when something goes wrong.

Coming from a G3, this thing is a totally different world for me. Lots of speed. I splurged on the 1900 card, bluetooth, wireless keyboard and mouse. I went with the 2.66 version and bumped up my RAM to 5gigs for now (got mine from TransIntl). I mostly will use the machine for Photoshop and Aperture work.

I bought the 23" Apple Cinema Display with it. Thankfully, no obvious pink hue. No visible dead pixels. There's a hint of backlight creeping through on the edge at full black screen, but not a deal breaker. Picture is bright and sharp. Photos have new life & punch. Looking back at my old CRT, I couldn't believe how muddy it was. And the unit is well suited for a living room with it's appealing design.

Ordered everything on a Monday night, got everything by Thursday with their standard free shipping.

Even the wife approves ;)

Sadly, I'll now have to part ways and sell off my trusty G3, parted out I imagine. She did me well :)

Congrats! I just ordered practically the same system this morning, except for no wireless keyboard/mouse (I already have a wireless Mighty Mouse), and I upgraded HD#1 to 750 GB.

I'm in the process of researching the purchase fo 4GB of additonal RAM also, and I also ordered a 23" ACD with the Mac Pro.

The Apple sales guy gave me a $100 discount as well on my order. Basically, I was all set to order online, when I had a question about shipping, so I decided to call the 1-800 number.

Hope you enjoy your system as much I anticipate I'll enjoy mine!

I think I'm looking at the same system. I still can't decide between it and the 24" iMac. The Mac Pro feels like overkill for my needs, but I had a G4 Sawtooth for almost 7 years, and I am really drawn to the 23" ACD over the white iMac.

Yay for you! I got mine in September, after 20 years of using a PC. (I grew up with my dad as a hard-core PC-man.) Perhaps needless to say, but I am loving my MacPro, I have had no problems, and I'm trying to convert my friends and family. Congrats!

Ordered mine today!! 2.66 stock spec Quad plus wifi and BT - didn't bother with the wireless cable and mouse, I have those already on the iMac but I'm not convinced it's the best solution, the mouse is awfully heavy to use. Anyway, I'll probably give the wired keyboard and MMouse to the wife for her iMac and use those wireless devices for myself.

Of course I also ordered the uniquitous 23" ACD - should be quite a step-up from a 17" iMac for performance and display. Need to grab some memory and disk at some point - memory before disk I think but perhaps throw in a cheap 250GB as I've loads of stuff archived on an external drive right now that I'd rather have online there and then.

Needless to day, after first seeing a PowerMac two years ago and having the Macintosh seed firmly planted in my conscience I'm looking forward to it very much indeed.

Sorry, should have put this in the reply above, mybad.

I aslo considered the iMac 24" as a Mac Pro is certainly overkill for me too but I wanted something I could expand for the next decade. I'm always running out of disk space and discovered recently the limits of memory upgrade on my iMac. Added to that with the Pro I can swap out the GPU for an up to date sexy card in a couple of years, add another 23" ACD at some point and even throw in the fastest Xeon chips for the board at the end of their lifecycle in a few years to pep it up.

And then perhaps I'll still be using it on 2017

Thanks all! Glad to hear you are all enjoying yours --- or will be enjoying yours soon, too!

The iMac seems like a fine machine as well. Just ask yourself how much flexibility and expandability you will want in your system. There's a lot of room for change with the Mac Pro -- changing RAM, hard drives, and the display. I'm always worried about having a display & CPU married into one unit --- if one goes wrong, you have to send both in ;)

anyway, have fun!
