A.I.Disk - MobileMe iDisk on your iPhone

Finally, a file storage/viewing app that does what I need it to! A.I.Disk (by Readdle.com) just popped up in the appstore for £4.99/$7.99. You can use it to download any files from your MobileMe iDisk (or Box.net or any other WebDav online storage service), and view them like the other alternative apps (Air Sharing, Files etc.).

I've just downloaded it, and first impressions are very good. I had to reboot after downloading it, as initially it would crash when trying to login to MobileMe, but all seems fine after the reboot. Doc viewing is very good, with the ability to add bookmarks and scroll through large PDFs, which not many other apps can do (I'm aware of briefcase being able to do this, not sure about others). It's also very quick to browse my iDisk, and download and open large docs. Once downloaded from iDisk, the document is then stored locally, so you don't need to download each time.

It doesn't offer the local Wifi sharing that "Air Sharing", "Files", "Briefcase" etc do, but for me, the iDisk functionality outweighs that, as this is where I have all my important files.

Oh yeah, and you can also email files downloaded to people as an attachment!
 
Sounds good, I think I'll wait however until a more full featured app becomes available, or Apple gets on the ball and adds this functionality to iPhone.

However the existence of this app does indicate that Apple may not be working on iDisk viewing/editing from the iPhone.
 
seems like a very nice app. well setup and easy to use.

large excel files with multiple tabs (not sure which is the problem) cause it to freeze, though, and require hitting the home button.
 
This is the current one of it's kind?

I was wondering if there is anything else comparable. I am looking for more specifically mobileme idisk access.

Why does it indicate that? iDisk is just a WebDav server and just about always has been so this app is just a WebDav client (I thought most of the others used WebDav as well?).

the only alternative for iDisk access that I'm aware of is iStorage. But it doesn't even come close to this imo. I've tried it, but it's way too buggy, not as nice ui, and can't read HTML files properly, just displays the code as if you were opening a webpage in notepad.

I just bought it and it crashes every single time I want to login to my MobileMe account. I rebootet and even reinstalled several times but still no luck.

Any advice?

Are you entering the full email address as the login? I think that might be why it crashed on me first time. Just enter your username without the @me.com
 
one other nice feature is its access to public idrives.
I played with the app extensively last night and I have to say, for MM and idisk users this really is a superb app for managing files.

if apple gave us a way to save files emailed to the idisk it would be a perfect product.

But only, when the Readdle server is online (it's offline at this time). You can even use fake email sender addresses...
iStorage will do this in a future update, it's version 1.0.5 will soon be available in the appstore (with very few bugs). I'm testing the beta and I'm very happy with it. Btw A.I.Disk is a WebDav client only, while others act as server and the computer is the client. iStorage is both and is able to do things which no other app is able to do (Ftp over phone line and much more).

But, iStorage can only access online files or connect to computers when on WiFi- NO edge or 3G. To me, that's pretty much a fail. A.I. Disk, lets you access files at all times.

That's not true: I'm using even the slowest phone line to access (up and download) files everywhere in the world! I never saw this in other apps (I did buy all available file managers, to find the swiss knife). Maybe it's because I use version 1.0.5, which will be in the appstore soon.

when will 1.0.5 hit the appstore ?

I dont use wlan so 3G/EDGE support would be perfect.
I was really close to buy A.I. Disk already,but then I found your posting here.

it would be great if you could pm me your email address,as I have a few questions about filemanagers,and it seems your an Xpert :)

I tried to pm you,but a page pops up and tells me I dont have sufficient rights to do that ??!:(

Version 1.0.5 is out, works really great!
I'm already testing the next version which supports zip/unzip, any email attachments (i.e. zipped folders) and more. You can reach me via yahoo.com, take my name w/o 2008.

I'd like to know whether with your beta version of iStorage it is possible to:
  1. upload/download from a Mac disconnected from the internet (e.g., via WiFi connecting the iPhone to an ad-hoc WiFi network created on the Mac);
  2. upload/download from a WebDAV remote server over 3G/edge/GPRS;
  3. send email with downloaded files with my own SMTP mail server.
As you can imagine, I am interested in the scenario when there is no WiFi available but there is only a 3G/edge/GPRS connection, and I have to send an email from the iPhone with an attachment from my Mac.

2. yes, with 1.0.5
3. next version, works good with beta 1.1.0
Also zipping folders for email-attachment is supported.
And iStorage is the only app that can upload to any server.

Ok, I tell you how I do:
First you should get a working ad-hoc WiFi. When you can't see it within the iPhone settings, restart the iPhone.
I suppose that you don't have a WebDAV server installed on your Mac, which is a little bit tricky. So from your iPhone you can only connect via FTP to your Mac (filesharing on, on your Mac), which is very easy:
i.e. my Mac is 192.168.1.100 to which I ftp.
Vice versa I go to my Mac and select connect to server:
http://192.168.1.23:8888 (which is my iPhone, iStorage is on and it's WebDav server is started). Then the iPhone appears as a disk on the desktop (if this feature is selected in the finder settings).
I mostly use FTP, as I need not go to the computer.
That's all. A WebDAV server on the Mac maybe elegant, but not necessary.
From outside you must know the IP what your internet provider has given to you. This would be a longer description, which you can google and this is not an iStorage question.
 
Yeah, really awesome app!
It is clearly the best solution for my needs, and support team told me that you're going to intoduce direct file transfer from your computer to iPhone!
Should be awesome with that function!

Hmm, this is what iStorage already does! :-O
New will be zipping, mail attachments and multi-language.

Sorry, NOW I understand: you meant A.I.Disk, but the last entries here were about iStorage, which is the "swiss knife" of file management on iPhone.
Should be in a different thread, I know, but somebody started it here... :)

Thank you for recommendation - it's really very usefull!
Oh, by the way, I tried to find A.I.Disk in AppStore and there is no such app anymore, coz they're renamed into OneDisk by some reason.
