Dear Apple,
I would just like to let you know how much of a failure your security is. I recently just got off of the phone with your "genius" technical support trying to recover my disabled apple id for the third time. I run a small film business off of my email, and I recently had an opportunity to film something that would have literally kick started my career, however, because you locked me out of my account, and never send me the email I need to reset it, I no longer have the gig. I am going to sell my Mac now and buy a PC now and put apple stickers all over it now and laugh at it.
Go screw yourself apple.

Yo Zak, this isn't an Apple-owned site.

PS:
If your job is that important to you then running it off on an e-mail account seems silly. If you were halfway serious you would be able to e-mail whatever movie you had to someone using a backup e-mail account.

While Apple's security may have caused this hiccup, your general unpreparedness and lack of forethought to provide yourself with a backup is not Apple's fault. You lost the gig yourself, not because of Apple.

I can't wait until something silly happens and you blame Microsoft. What will be next?

I don't do much serious stuff over email but I even have two emails for these very reasons. When I have problems with one email server (usually local ISP), I can use the other (usually gmail), to do whatever. It really comes in handy during server outages.

Try it, learn from it, and enjoy Outlook Express.

Buy your own domain. It won't stop any problems with you email host but you will have greater control over it.

I'm not sure how much help this "letter" will do since Macrumors is not an Apple site.

If not having email cripples you going to Windows is a bad move. I support Windows environments for a living and if you think Microsoft will be better you'll be in for a harsh surprise.

Instead of spending lots of money switching systems it would be a better idea to do what others have said and get your own email, or use something web based that you can check from a browser. I'm still not sure how a disabled Apple ID affects email but if you explain the problem a little more we can maybe offer a better solution.

I did this a number of years ago myself. A few weeks ago I setup iCloud and forwarded my other two e-mail addresses to it since I've been annoyed by frequent mail issues at my web hosting company.

But I still have the other two accounts and also save any important e-mail locally on my computer in case of a problem with iCloud.
