A lil Help Please

Hi guys,

i am in lil situation, i currently own a 12" powerbook G4 887Mhz with 640Ram, running tiger.its been my work horse, more so over the last few months since gave my PC desktop away. The thing is that its really slowing down on me, the fan is constantly running, processors almost always gets max out, ram get all used my swap file is round 512mg - 1gb large. and that’s just using safari, word, excel etc.. you should see how it is when i use photoshop, dreamweaver etc...

i am freelance web designer & do some print work not alot just got a few clients i take care of, looking to concentrate more on it as i have more time on my hands as i am doing a part time degree course.

So anyway i am not sure what i should go for, should i stay with the powerbook, till say leopard comes out. should i go with a macbook or save that lil extra and get a macbookpro,

i am not looking for a desktop, as i need portability taking my laptop to uni, around the house etc..

any help would be great..

Oh and another thing, should i waith for the core Duo 2 Processors? is the advantages that visable?
 
I say save a little extra and get the MBP because it sounds like you hang onto your machines for many years. It is a good idea to get a machine that will carry you for several more years. It probably wouldn't be a big deal if you don't wait for Leopard. Afterall we don't have a exact date for it so you might end up waiting until March or April for it. I say if you can find a deal on an MBP 15" then go for it.
 
True, i was thinking that last night.. get something that will last a fair bit, the MBP are pretty sweet, more of the old powerbook design which i like, and a keyboard which is almost the same as my old powerbook. not too keen on the MB's keybaord..

onlything that gets me is 15" too big? if only they had a 12" i would so get it..

I hear that, just before I replied I was thinking about your last comment about needing a portable machine. Yeah a 12" is an ideal travel computer where the 15" is pushing the limit of ease in that respect.

The keyboards on the MacBook are really no big difference (unless you've tried it and don't like it), but I do think the MBP is probably best for your profession and whatnot. If anything you could try and find a used 1.33mHz 12" PB. I have actually thought of doing that as an inbetweener from my G4 iBook.

You could probably find a great deal that way.
 
yeah portablity is a big thing.. i want something i put in my backpack along with my books and not have it taking up all the space..

the keyboard i am sure give me sometime with it will get the hang of it, i would rather get a intel processor and run windows on it for those few windows only apps i need for uni.

the price is also an issuse

MB - £845 vs £1287 -MBP

£400ish more for future proofing.. hmmm...

50% increase in cost for future proofing......will it really last 50% longer?
 
Thats what i was thinking..

just had a look at the macbooks, the 1.83 is not bad price..at £703 , £844 for a superdrive and a slight speed increase.. hmm..

how often does one use a dvdrw? my old powerbok dint have one, when i needes some them burned, just transfered it over my network and used my server drive..

but then again its the convienece of having it..

wish i was made of money

well i could take my backpack in the apple store and see it it fits.. without runing off with it :p hee hee

anyway i'm not too sure what would be best for me atm.. like i said before a 12" or 13.3" MBP will be perfect.
