A little annoyance with the iPhone...

So the other day I got a voice mail from a blocked number. It was for scheduling delivery for something I had ordered from amazon and they left a number for me to call back. So I was listening to it and switched to the contacts screen to write down the number and found out the voice mail stops playing if you leave its screen.

So how am I supposed to save a number that someone leaves me in a voice mail? Does anyone know a workaround for this?
 
Same problem here. Real pain in the ass. I did find a work around though.

I'm pretty sure the dial pad remembers numbers entered. So, while still a pain, you could listen to the voicemail, hit the dial pad to enter what you remember, then listen again for the rest.
 
You just remember the number, then open the voice recording app, and record it in another audio recording...

..but it is in you iPhone with a backup!

What you can't remember 7 numbers (9 if you count the area code)? Is it that hard......really? Then keep the message in voice mail until you can write it down later.

Sure hope a Solar Flare doesn't fry all our technology or we would all be walking around like Zombies.

You mean 10 digits with the area code, right?

Not everyone lives in the U.S (and it's 10 not 9 over here).

Thanks for the help :rolleyes: but the point of this thread was if there was any workaround for this issue with the iPhone since this is an iPhone forum and all.

Maybe I should just wait till I get home to browse the web too... except that's why I got an iPhone in the first place.

I'm able to use the keypad while a voicemail is playing. Maybe type the number as you hear it?

When Visual Voicemail is playing or regular voicemail? I'm talking about Visual Voicemail, when you switch to the keypad screen it stops playing.

But anyway thanks, you just reminded me I can just call regular voice mail if I need to get a number or something. :)

I tested it with Visual Voicemail, haven't tried with regular voicemail. I'm on a 3GS running 3.0.1 btw. Mine worked just fine when I pressed play, then hit the keypad, I still heard my voicemail playing.
 
1) Call your own phone number.
2) Press SPEAKERPHONE.
3) Open Notes, Evernote, etc
4) Type number.
5) Press green 'in-call' bar at top of screen.
6) End Call.
 
A) Don't use Visual Voicemail and call your number and copy it down in notes or on the keypad as the message replays it.
B) Use Visual Voicemail and simply remember the number for 3 seconds so you can type it into the keypad. It's not that hard, really.
C) Find your own workarounds instead of complaining.

A) I realized that a few posts ago.
B) Already mentioned, way to get your post count up.
C) I wasn't complaining, I asked if anyone had any suggestions for my situation, since this is a help forum and all. :rolleyes:

I'm on 3.1.2. When I play a message in Visual Voicemail and change to the keypad the message stops playing. Could it be a bug?

I thought you needed more help. Your sentence structure and attitude had me conclude that you needed a walk-through. I'll strive to be less helpful in the future.

Well, I said I had this issue with Visual Voicemail, since it stops playing when I switch to the keypad. A few posts later I realized I could just use regular voice mail instead. Maybe you should just strive to read beyond the original post in the future.
 
Sorry to interrupt the pissing contest...

I've often thought that a killer iPhone feature would be the ability to transcribe voicemail and have it optionally be shown from the visual voicemail screen (either transcribed on the phone, or on AT&Ts server and sent with the voicemail). From what I've heard Google Voice does this, but to have it integrated into the phone app would be awesome. Add in the fancy text recognition features that the iPhone already supports (ie, linking phone numbers and addresses) and you have a very useful, very unique feature that would be a huge selling point.
