I just received my new C2D macbook pro 15" 2.33 GHZ, 160 GB HD, 2 GB RAM, which is an upgrade from my previous CD MBP 15" 2.16 GHZ, 120 GB HD, 1 GB RAM.
There are a few problems with it.
I have the two running side by side for a direct comparison (I copied all files and applications over, so they both have exactly the same data). Now, supposedly, this thing runs cooler than the previous model. After a brief run of the Quake 4 demo under equal conditions (with the same apps open) my C2D shot up above 50 C, while my CD stayed under a cool 40 C. Now that everything has toned down, my C2D is still running at 40 degrees, while my CD is at 34. They're both running the hardware monitor app.
The fan gets very loud. I hardly hear the fan at all on my CD, but this thing really kicks in when doing something hardware intensive. Also, there's a dull, low pitched, permanent fan like noise coming from somewhere... I'm not sure if its the same mooing noise some people noticed on the CD model, but it's kind of annoying.
The lid, when closed, doesnt touch down all the way to the computer base, so it can be pushed in a little (not major, but my CD stayed clamped all the way down).
These are all minor quips, and I hope I haven't made anyone feel any worse about their C2D purchase. It's still a great machine.
I guess I could always just go back to using my old CD model, if anything worse happens... I think returning the system is out of the question though, as I had it custom built. Oh well.
