I'm looking for a bit of decision support.

Currently on a MBP14 2021, which meets my needs. But my wife is looking to switch out her 2019 MBP16 - I typically hand down to her as her needs are fairly light and I am very careful with my laptops so she gets a mint condition machine that will last her at least three or four more years. She's found the 16in too big and heavy for her and covets the size and weight of my MBP14. I can write off a laptop over three years through my business and buy tax-free.

I use my MBP14 with a Studio display to run my business - workshop design, coaching calls, some graphics and materials, photography. I don't really stretch things performance-wise - 1tb and 16gb of ram is enough local storage. I am often out and about in town - coffee shops, client offices etc, when I bring an ipad pro for a second display. I don't fly much for business these days.

I'm considering handing on my MBP to my wife and switching to an M2pro 16in MBP, which would give me enough screen estate to leave the iPad pro at home most of the time (meaning my carry weight would be slightly reduced). My question is, based on what I've shared, does it make sense to just go for it now (I'm in the mood for a change, frankly) or does it make sense to wait until e.g. Jan-feb for the (assumed) m3pro machines; or is that likely to be academic for my use? And any thoughts from anyone who's made the shift from 14 to 16?

Just looking for opinions to provoke my thinking - please share your own feelings.

Well, if you wait then you're making your Wife wait for her upgrade as well...

Well, if history repeats itself there will be at least 6 months between the m3 and m3pro/max launch.
Considering that the m3 is not out, jan or feb 24 for the pro/max appears to be overly optimistic.

Thanks for the nudge!
Trade-in for the 2019 16in MBP was better than I thought, so I bought the 16 yesterday and am currently migrating my wife's account onto the 14. the 16 is definitely meaningfully heavier but I'm already appreciating the extra size for two apps side-by-side.
