Well, tonight I noticed my pb was running a little slow. Checked the RAM and it only showed 512 (ordered 2 512 sticks). Thought ok, I'll just check and see if one of the sticks had come loose. I pull the cover off and pull the sticks out and put them back in, turn it on, and it still only shows 512. Well, switched the sticks (put the one on top to the bottom and vise versa). Started it back up and still no difference. So....now I've come to the conclusion that it's a bad slot. I bought this new in Feb when the new ones came out, don't have apple care. What are my options?

If you bought it new this past February, it is still under warranty. Your best bet would be to take it to the closest Apple Store and have them look at it. They are likely to draw the same conclusion you have and fix your machine for you.

perhaps it is just one bad stick? try removing one, and then the other, see if that does any good at figuring out what the problem is, its not necessarily a bad slot just yet.

I did that, I switched the sticks and had the same result.

boot up with only one? or just switched them in the slots? i would take one out completely, see if the computer reads it, shutdown, put the other one in... ect.

Me too...

Buy AppleCare. Seriously. Just in case. It might be worth the investment if it's the Lower Memory Slot Failure that the 15" PowerBooks are experiencing.

It didn't recognize anything in the lower slower slot, it beeped 3 times and didn't even start up. Do I even need any AppleCare to get this fixed or is it covered by Apple, cause this sounds expensive?
