I'm setting up QTSS to stream my university student TV station's shows, and after throwing use of my own servers out of the window i've set up a nice dual G4 with Tiger server, and QTSS.

i'm having a little trouble though - how on earth do you stop people from just saving the links?

i know it's trivial to bypass it, but the student union wants it implemented. it's the only thing holding me back from the launch tomorrow...

mucho thanko!

........or not.

the server now isn't working for any of my damn files. it just keeps saying "disconnected". the QTSS error logs are saying "you must be root to use the following RTSP port: 80", and "The following pref, mp3_broadcast_password, wasn't found. Using a default value of:"

DAMNIT!

help!

Working on it. Learning the publisher at the moment.

Edit: By the way. How are we doing this stream. Are we imbedding it into a web page, or do we want to just have people click on a link that on a web page and just open up the QT to play the movie?

I had it working on my server with just using the link to open up QT on it own. The enbed in web page using the streaming server I have yet to get into.

Ok, I have my stream up. rtsp://ducktapeandglue.com:554/test.sdp It looks by default that you can't save the stream. You can save a link, but not the whole thing. Of course, I seem to have trouble keeping the stream runnning, it just stops for no reason which has me confused.

I figured, once you have the your media in the Library area of the QTSS Publisher which is in the Application/Server folder. You just create a media playlist, name it accordingly, then click on start, and it will make a rtsp (Real Time Streaming Playlist) in which you can't save the stream. I'm guessing my server just is not powerful enough to handle this program (500mhz Cube), so that might be the reason it keeps turning itself off. I also noticed that you need to have the "Accept incoming broadcasts" checked in the Access tab of the Quicktime Streaming server part of the Server Admin, otherwise I wasn't able to turn on the media in the QTSS.

If you need more help, I suggest calling Apple up for some Tech support, they can solve your problem a lot quicker then forum posting.

right, i've got the streaming working, after a fashion.

if you go to the url rstp://host/something.mov it works, but if you start a media playlist in QTSS it doesn't work - it brings back a 404 error. it worked once, showing the first file (advertising the TV Station, but the second caused QT Player to crash.....

going to try for a little more then phone apple...
