A lot of iOS users that I know seem to be talking about the idea of trying Android, so as an ex-iPhone user, I'm getting a lot of questions.

Something I'm noticing is everyone seems to think Samsung IS Andoid. And buying a Samsung phone is a sure-fire way to put someone off Android and go straight back to iPhone.

When they look at my Moto One X, they get so confused.

Google need to somehow better differenciate Android and Samsung.

a better place
Not really surprising. As much as all mp3 players became proverbially called iPods. Like how most vacuum cleaners are still referred to as hoovers despite not being made by Hoover.

Basically at some point the dominant makers product get associated with the device and then even if market changes it still is referred to as that.

Samsung sells the mist android phones than all the others combined.

Google / Stock android devices counts for less than 5% (around 3%) which is easily evident when you look at the take up of new OS's on Android. Lollipop was stuck on less than 5% for more than 9 months and even now its only creeping up as the likes of Samsung and other OEM's finally release it.

So yes, at this point its unlikely you'll ever disassociate Samsung's touchwiz from Android. Indeed I would bet money most Samsung users have a basic knowhow that they are using android, but I bet the majority don't understand what 'touchwiz' itself actually is.....

Why do you care? How is your life impacted on any level when it comes to device you own, how you use it, and does it make you happy?

Or are you slightly bitter because no one cares about your Moto X, but everyone knows a Galaxy phone?

And if Samsung phones put people off android, why is Samsung the number one brand for android phones, while Motorola keeps going broke and is sold off every other week?

Gotta be in it to win it
Samsung is given prominence in the vzw stores, but I'm sure they pay for that. Other than that most people in my global network, understand android runs across many device manufacturers while iOS runs on Apple hardware. It's a pretty simple concept, unless where you live Samsung is the only phone maker. Then I could understand the confusion.

Remember when people were calling every game console a Nintendo. Or how people still call a flying disk a Frisbee.

You know, I actually get the exact same experience. When they see my Moto X, they always say "oh that's not an iPHone right?..is that a Samsung?"

Oh well, it's mostly from people who don't know phones the way we do and just happen to use iPhones and that's all they know of the smartphone world.
