A Mind Boggling Quandry

my mac book pro (core duo, 2 GHz, running 4.9, 1GB ram, 42.31 GB available) is not performing to what i believe it should... this comparing it to my girlfriends mac book of all things (core 2 duo , 2 GHz, running 4.9 , 1GB ram, 52.38 GB available)

i have bought tech tool pro 4, ran all the tests and finally defraged. the hard drive as it certainly needed it. As i notice some improvments, it's still not performing as well as my girlfriends mac book. What could be the problem??

As far as I am aware Mac OS System 4 was never designed to run on Intel chips. I would therefore recommend reinstalling Tiger OS X and you will see vast improvements.

As far as I am aware Mac OS System 4 was never designed to run on Intel chips.

That would change with Leopard. Leopard will be faster on 64-bit machines than Tiger because Leopard is fully 64-bit and will have better optimization with Intel architecture.

the macbook, though entry-level, is a very fast computer. if you're not doing anything that requires the use of a video card, your girlfriend's macbook should be faster than your core duo macbook pro. if you want speedier performance, i suggest you get more ram.
