So well, I've had a Mac Pro for around a week or so now, its very nice actually, it boots OSX well under 15 seconds from the push of the power button to the point its usable, well things just fly, apps open in a snap, it is a LOT faster in iMovie than MBP and other apps like Keynote, SuperPI (winXP), Aperture etc, (overall I'd say 1.5x to almost 4x faster than MBP), it runs very quiet and installation of additional drives was a snap. The default optical drive made way too much of a racket, so much in fact watching a DVD Movie was not possible unless the volume was WAY cranked up, I used the Lite-On that I ahd on my PowerMac G4 and its all great now. Windows XP performance is likewise great, I really want to snatch a X1900 or similar but the 7300GT is decent enough for now, as far as OCing go it topped at 480 for the memory and 500 for the core which is enough to play most games at 1280x1024 without any AA or AF.
Back to OSX, Rosetta runs surprisingly fast, Adobe apps take quite some time to boot (well comparable to the PowerMac G4 I had) but actual performance rendering effects and such is very fast. I'm looking forward to get a X1900XT and change the RAM to a 4x512MB configuration which should really make this computer fly even more (and it will probably make Rosetta performance go up tremendously).
I like Mac Pro, even with the base configuration there is some tremendous power to be had, 4 cores is way more than enough to run a few demanding applications, some intel, some rosetta and a few apps on Windows XP running on Parallels desktop.
Very very nice, now I only need around 1500$ for a monitor (a dell 2407FPW would be nice), a videocard and 2x512mb sticks.
