a newer version of Firefox.app already exists

I have installed the latest version of Firefox 48 and after a period usually less than 24 hrs If I reinstall the firefox 48.dmg file it will report "a newer version of Firefox.app already exists" Their is no new version of Firefox 48 for Aug-16-2016. This issue also occurs for the Tor browser. Firefox is continuosly running when the version change occurs. Reinstalling requires shutting down Firefox.

I suspect it is a Firefox hack or possibly Yosemite OS problem.

Does anyone have any ideas?

I'd suggest a complete clean reinstall. A few other people have had this issue and this normally does the trick.

1) Close Firefox
2) Download AppCleaner and drag the Firefox app into there
3) Delete all files found in AppCleaner and restart your Mac with reopen windows when logging back in disabled
4) Download Firefox again & reinstall

I have already done this but the same results occur with version 48.01 of Firefox and 6.04 of Tor browser
