so i have an imac june 08 and it came with 2 gigs of ram i purchased at the time the upgrade to 4 gig(2x2) well im getting rid of my imac so can i take out one of the 2 gig modules leaving one 2 gig module in? will the computer still function with only one module??

Yes, but why? You will get more money if it has 4GB and unless you have something to do with the RAM, it'll be useless.
