So I reserved an iPad 16GB WiFi+3G in 2 of my local Apple Stores (they said it was ok to do, you're just limited to 2 reservations) and I got the standard "We'll be in touch soon" e-mail from both of the stores.

My question is, is this just something that they send out to keep us happy or is it actually getting close to my name coming up on the list? I figured if it was just some automated thing they would have sent me 2 but I only received one e-mail so that leads me to believe that they actually send it out when your name is coming closer to being up.

The store gave me a rough estimate of "about a week" and I know I'm being impatient but had anyone else gotten an e-mail like this? If so I'm curious to how long there after you actually got called into the store to come pick it up.

Again, I know I'm being impatient but I do appreciate any help. :)

It really depends on where you live i think. My experience was it took about a week and a half for my email to come up, too bad thou. considering I bought one from bestbuy about 5 days before my email showed up. So you will probably get an iPad faster on the store list then buying online. Or call your local BB.

Dh and I were sent an email that our ipads were in within a week from two different stores. What sucks is, we both travel and we happen to miss out on both since you only have one day to pick up or you're SOL. My name's been on a list for two months now at Best Buy for two different models without a call. We've had ours for over a month now (one ordered and the other found at an authorized reseller), but I wonder if I'll ever get that call from Best Buy.

It's automated. It's just a confirmation you get after they put you on the list to tell you that you made it on the list. With my iPhone it took over a week, with my iPad it took two days, not really a notice of time frame or anything.

I went to the local Apple store, got my name on the list, and got the email to pick up my iPad 2 days later. It really is very random when the inventory comes in. Heard of longer waits, heard of people walking into a Best Buy and walking out with one that same hour.
